Ⅱ. Extension of Validity, Addition of Accompanying

Family Members

- Request for extension of validity can be submitted 6 months before/after the expiration date of the current passport.  However, the validity of passport can not exceed 10 years from the issue date.

- If the current passport is in an old format(*), submit a Passport Application instead of application for Extension, 2 photos, $7.-(cash or money order) all others are the same as the required documents needed for Extension Application.
* old format : the lime/pink colored inner pages
* new format : the peach/light violet colored inner pages

 For Permanent Residents:

1. Documents Required:

• Application for Passport Extension : 1 original
  The Application may be downloaded.(HWP, MS-WORD, ACROBAT)
• One(1) Color Photo
  - The photo on white background should be less than 6 months old. The size of the face is approximately 1¼" and should be the front view. The hats, head-gears, or sunglasses are not allowed.
  - If the current passport is in the old format, the application of passport has to be submitted, but submit one additional photo(total of 2) and a fee of $7.- and all other required documents  will remained the same.
  
• A copy of the front and back of the Permanent Resident Card(if mailed, have the copy notarized).
• The current passport(original) and a copy of the current passport(the pages with personal information)
• Processing Fees: $7.-(in cash or money order, no personal checks)
  - If mailed, include of $15.- for return postage(depending on the number of passports mailed together, the postage may vary).
  - You may make one money order for all the fees.

2  Following individuals have to Submit Additional Documents

    (1) Male Applicants between 18 and 35 years old:

• Proof of the completion or exemption from military services(a copy of the page of the passport on which the embarkation records is stamped or the Certificate of Completion)
• Applicants who have not completed military services have to apply for an extension of military service when submitting the Passport Application.

    (2) For the separation of accompanied children from the passport or if this application is the first application after reaching the age of 14:

• submit a copy of family register

3. Processing Time: by the category

• Applying in Person: approximately 7 days upon receipt of the application
  - If the application is submitted together with Military Exemption, it may take up to two months.
• First time applicant after reaching the age of 14: about 1month
• Applying by Mail: an extra delivery time is needed in addition to the above mentioned processing time.  

For Non-Resident Aliens(Students, Company Reps, Short-Term Employees, and Others)

1. Documents Required:

• Application for Passport Extension : 1 original
  The Application may be downloaded.(HWP, MS-WORD, ACROBAT)
• One(1) Color Photo
  - The photo on white background should be less than 6 months old. The size of the face is approximately 1¼" and should be the front view. The hats, head-gears, or sunglasses are not allowed.
  - If the current passport is in the old format, the application of passport has to be submitted, but submit one additional photo(total of 2) and a fee of $7.- and all other required documents  will remained the same. 
• Additionally required documents:
  - Student: Certificate of Attendance(original) and I-20(copy)
  - Employee: Certificate of Employment
  - Others: INS's Authorization for stay
  - Undocumented aliens: grounds for the over stay & the pledge to try to expeditiously obtain the legal resident status.
• The current passport(original) and a copy of the current passport(the pages with personal information and visa section)
• Processing Fees: $7.-(in cash or money order, no personal checks)
  - If mailed, include $15.- for return postage(depending on the number of passports mailed together, the postage may vary).
  - You may make one money order for all the fees.

2. Following Individuals have to Submit Additional Documents

    (1) Male Applicant between 18 and 35 years old
